My D attended BTP this past summer and loved it. I would say it is probably more heavily weighted to dance than voice or acting, but all are taught and available. (She actually had 3 private voice lessons while there at no additional charge.) The master classes with the likes of Patrick Wilson and Terrence Mann are inspiring. Unlike other programs, BTP combines both high school kids (at least age 16) with college kids, most of whom have already been accepted into well-known BFA programs. While the daily classes are divided between high school and college kids, the actual performance numbers are not. Your child gets quite the reality check benchmarking himself or herself against older kids who are at places like CMU, NYU, Elon, Miami, OCU, Boco, etc. The days are incredibly long, so it is a serious 3 week intensive.

My D attended the CMU precollege program this past summer and pretty much had the time of her life. They were busy from ~9:00 to 5:00 with Dance(ballet/jazz), acting, MT styles (shakespear), group singing and Private voice among other classes, english lit(plays, etc)..then Dinner, then off to whatever workshop they'd signed up for, then homework back at the dorms.. D said they usually got to bed ~12:30 -1:00AM, but that was mostly because they were always up talking, etc.. in the common rooms, during/after homework.

The thing to remember about CMU is that not only is the Drama program going on, but your child will be immersed in dorm life with kids from all the other programs, (Art/Design/Architecture/Math/Game Academy, etc..) Besides my D's roommate(they want to room together in college now if they can get in the same place...) some of her best friends that she made were from some of the various other programs. also, along with getting to know kids from all over the country, some of her good friends ended up being from Hong Kong, Egypt, Palestine, Mexico, and spain, I think too..

The training she got was excellent. (D attended Stagedoor Manor the previous year, and would have earlier years If we'd known about it since she loved it) but she felt that the "training" she got at CMU was more specific and intense. And she loved the independence of the college atmosphere.

There are a few videos on youtube about the CMU program..

...and don't forget the other NYU option. There's a music theatre intensive that is 3 weeks, run by Steinhardt through their music (vocal performance) department. It is by audition (a tape needs to be sent). D loved it so much she is now attending NYU as a VP major with an emphasis in MT.

Kids from her summer are attending NYU at both Steinhardt and Tisch. Others are attending CMU, BOCA and other excellent programs. It is well run and the kids are taught by NYU faculty members. I think there may be a Florence progam this year, too.
