Summer Progam

This is my first posting so forgive me if I am not in the right place. My
D, a rising senior, has to decide immediately if her summer program will be CMU or Northwestern - any thoughts on pros and cons of each. Anyone know how good each faculty for the summer program is?

Besides the faculty (which is incredibly important), she might consider which program she would prefer to study in as a college student. Northwestern and CMU are incredibly different types of programs - one's a BA within a prestigious academic university while the other is a BFA (with conservatory style course requirements as well). While there is no guarantee that participating in the summer program will increase your D's chances of getting accepted to that school next year, it can only help - logically if she attends a certain school's summer program and is learning from that school's faculty, when it comes time for auditions next fall/winter she'll have developed the strengths to which that same school's faculty is attracted. It also gives her valuable face time with the faculty - they get to know her as an artist, a learner, and a person, which can be incredibly helpful come audition season! I know that 2 of the 6 girls in CMU's entering freshman class were in the summer program, and 6 of the 22 entering Michigan freshman MTs have done MPulse (Michigan's summer program). As I mentioned, it's not by any means guaranteed that doing the summer program will get your D into a school but it may give her an edge!

My D absolutely loved Northwestern's summer program. You can PM me or e-mail me with any questions. I would really recommend it. BTW, she will be going to Northwestern in the fall!

I am a graduate of NU and would not trade my time there for anything. When looking at summer programs for my D the Cherub program at NU was a given as far as one to look into. My wife was part of the program when she was in HS. This shows you how much the times have changed. When she went her parents paid $500 for the entire program. It is now $10,000. Yes you read that number correctly. Talk about inflation. if you've got it, go for it! But sheesh guys college itself is a challenge enough to pay for... I guess it definitely weeds out the "who cans" and who can'ts."

Cherubs is $10,000? My understanding from a student who will be attending this summer is that the cost for the MT program is $6400. Nothing to sneeze at, I agree, but a lot less than $10,000. :)

10k is for the combined program I believe.

I have had several students attend this program and have another one attending this coming summer. For those doing the five week theater program and the two week extension for MT, the total fee is $6300, and not $10,000. I just looked at their brochure online to confirm. While that is not cheap, it is comparable to many fine summer programs that are of this duration and even programs that are less than 7 weeks. If you attend for just the five week acting program, it is $4400. Also, they offer need based aid/scholarships. This program is actually cheaper than the one my child attended (the current fees to attend).

My bad. It is definitely a top notch program. $500 has contributed to a long, successful career.

Since I am a big man and admit my mistakes, I looked at the site and realized that when I looked into the program a few years ago, I ADDED the two fees together to get 10k. The wording was deceiving but now I see that it is indeed $6,300. I, no doubt, deserve 100 lashes for my mistake - and a flush of embarrassment because math was (is) one of my fortes. Ah, well, at least I'm pretty.

^^^ We forgive ya! :D
(just want any prospective families who read this to have the right info.)
