Hi - any old-timers willing to share advice about “re-entry” at home for the summer? I’ll admit that while I’m so very excited to bring him home on Friday, I am a bit nervous about how the re-entry will go on this first summer home since starting BS. How to make sure it’s a smooth transition for all of us - DS, who hasn’t been living under our rules for the past 9 months, and us at home who’ve managed to create a rhythm without him… He has secured a summer job, so that’s good. Thanks!
Serious rest and decompression … then it’s a lot of sniffing butts (Ok… that’s going to get misunderstood… a joke about dogs getting to know each other ) Being home after being on your own can be tricky for some (parents too)
@jdewey we have 4 dogs so I really appreciate your post
Just pretend he’s not there for awhile. If he wants to surface and participate in whatever’s going on around the house, great, but if not, just let it be. For about the first week back, other than the occasional pre-planned and unavoidable doctor or dentist appointment, I try not to require anything of my BS kids and just let them have some real down time.
Expect more frequent grocery shopping (fridge empty again?), more laundry (washing the ten loads after unpacking,) more water usage, higher electricity bills…
We will expect very little from our son for the first week or so after finishing school. Fortunately, his siblings at home have an extra week before they finish. After all the kids are finished then he has some good plans for the summer.
