Summer Reading Anyone?

I thought it would be a good idea to make lists of books for high school students, books that may come of use and what not... just something to get them on their war...

My top 25 in no order are probably

Animal Farm
Lord of the Flies
To Kill a Mocking Bird
The Great Gatsby
Catcher in the Rye
The Scarlet Letter
The Grapes of Wrath
Of Mice and Men
Hamlet
Romeo and Juliet
1984
Catch 22
Bless Me Ultima
House on Mango Street
Autobiography of Martin Luther King Junior
Speak
Witness
Spirited Away
The bible
The Atheists bible ( i know its contradicting the last, but it is a good book)
The Iliad
The Odyssey
Monkey (journey to the west)
Metamorphosis (ovid)
The tempest

I'd add the Qur’an and The Tibetan Book of the Dead to that, which are two that I plan on reading this summer.

I definitely agree on The Bible, though. You miss so many things (like allusions) in Western literature if you haven't read The Bible.

I highly recommend Frankenstein and Johnny Got His Gun, too, if it's known that it won't be read in class.

Oh, Brave New World as well. Amazing.

Tao Te Ching

Things by Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters.
