Summer research for British undergrads

I am a fourth year physics undergraduate at a UK university and I was wondering whether there are any summer research programmes at US research institutes/universities that I can apply to? I’m a British citizen and so I’ll have to apply as an international student.

I've had a look and apart from the internship at Fermilab, I can't seem to find any others. Does anybody know of any summer research programmes that I can apply to in the US?

I wasn't really sure where to put this thread btw.

Thanks!

Hi, I don’t know anything specific. Does your uni have any American partnerships or study abroad schemes? These might give you a contact to try. Maybe something more unofficial might be a better bet for you? Or are there any UK institutes with partners or sites in the US? Your initiative alone might make you stand out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I’ll ask my uni about any US partnerships or opportunities that they know of.

As a sidenote: Why’s it difficult to get a J1 visa (I know basically nothing about this visa)?
