Hi all, I had a quick question about summer programs and weight they might carry for college.
I am a high school junior who plans on applying to several Ivies and top schools, so this summer is very important. I plan on studying neuroscience and economics in college, and I have been conducting research in brain imaging from the past 2.5 years. I have an opportunity to perform independent lab research at Oxford this summer through my research consortium, and I was wondering how much weight this type of foreign internship would carry in college apps?
I would be receive housing/flight funding for this internship, and I think it would be good to be able to do work on the same consortium. However, I’m not sure whether being offered an internship abroad is valuable in any way. I haven’t heard of many people who seem to do this… I think if I do this internship, I’d likely get a rec from my Oxford PI as well.
Please let me know how this would be seen in college apps this coming year. I’d be really excited to be able to do research in a very different environment and learning different university culture. In addition, I think this would be an alternative to doing study abroad since I could spend 2.5 months in a foreign country.
