I have received an e-mail from ND about a 2 week summer scholar program. Is this worth the money and is it worth applying? Also does anyone know the acceptance rate for this?( I know there are a maximum number of 20 students per class and I think there are around 6 different classes)
They actually offer somewhere between 15 and 20 different tracks. My daughter did Summer Scholars in 2014, between her junior and senior years, and loved it. She was somewhat ambivalent about ND going in as she had “fallen in love” with another school. The SS experience changed that, and she is now very happily navigating her first semester at ND. In addition, she has several close friends on campus that she met at Summer Scholars. She was in the Lit track, which was pretty writing intensive. Some of her friends didn’t have quite as much work.I’m not sure what the acceptance rate is, but it is at least somewhat competitive. If you are interested in attending ND, it is a worthwhile program. ND does consider demonstrated interest, and attending a summer program is certainly one way to show interest.
Do you know about financial aid or costs?
My D went to summer legal course in summer of 2014. She enjoyed it a lot and is now enrolled at ND as a freshman. I believe that ND admits something like 1 in 5 students who apply to these programs. I think it cost close to $3,000 - they probably offer scholarships / financial aid but we did not inquire.
I went to the entrepreneurship track in 2014 and absolutely loved it! The opportunities we had were so unique and living on campus for 2 weeks was amazing. I think it was around $2700 and I think they do offer some kind of financial aid but I didn’t qualify. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions!
