Just curious, if a midshipman is required to take a summer school course after their plebe year, are they automatically going to be 'A' Split for their sea year?

My Son is a B split and is currently in his Plebe year. As long as grades remain fine he will go to sea for August - Sept - October and be back for wrestling season next year.

That is about the extent of my understading at this time.

CPASteve....B splitters report to their ATR's to commence Sea Term on 23 June 2009 which is the day after Graduation.....Not in August.

KS-- to the best of my knowledge if a B splitter is required to go to summer school, they attend summer school and get additional sea days on the Kings Pointer. They join their ship after completion of summer school. It works the same if they stay to be DI's for the incoming class.

If anyone knows different, please correct me :)

What happens is you go to summer school for about 20ish days in July. During this time if your B-Split you schedule a ship assignment with the ATRs...get it done ASAP. You can take summer school as a B-Split the only problem is you have to spend more time out at sea your 2nd Sea Year making up for the time lost. But its not too bad, I'm a Summer School Alum

That really helps, I was curious how it worked. KP2009, when you said to schedule a ship assignment with ATRs, is that something the students will be advised of or something they should be proactive about?

During Summer School B-Split kids are advised to go see the ATRs but its also something they should be aware of. They will give you a date you can start to see the ATRs by. The sooner you see them, the sooner you will have an idea of where you're going. So in other words they will be advised on it but they should also be proactive too.

Thanks again I really appreciate it!
