I just got a summer session package from rutgers..
It sounds like a nice idea to start up earlier with credits
and less courseload in the fall.. but is it really worth it ?

How many of you are actually going?
and if you have attended on in the past, how was it?

I was actually considering it, but unfortunately I am working all summer so I can't.

I guess it would be worth it if you don't want to be loaded with work during the fall, or if you wanted to graduate early and whatnot. Early credits is nice, and maybe if you plan on double majoring it could be really helpful. Also, you will probably get an early feel for Rutgers before entering in the Fall. You'd have all summer to get used to the school. So I find it nice.

Yet again I would have attended, but I can't this summer. I would seriously consider it and maybe discuss it with your parents. Do you know any friends who are going to Rutgers who might be considering it also?

Its a very good idea. It works even better if you have AP credits. The number of credits determine your "year." If you have more credits, you can register before everyone else for classes and pick your resident hall for next year. I suggest you take one or at most two classes. Good luck next year. If you have 30 credits by the end of your first semester and a low lottery number for housing, you are almost guaranteed to get any resident hall. Classes are taken pretty fast so it helps if you can register early. :)

I've been doing summer session for the past two years now. The classes are LONG and they cram an entire course into about a month's worth of classes (just a little bit more than a month actually).

Yeah I was thinking of taking General Chemistry II over the summer to get a kick start to my pre-med track. Does anyone who's taken this course have an opinion on it? I got a 5 on my AP Chemistry exam so I could technically get out of both Chem I & II, but I don't really remember Chem too much so I figure I'd refresh my memory before Orgo kicks my ass.

I know this isn't the subject of the thread but I have an urgent AP credits question: I'm planning to major in Cell Biology and Neuroscience but my AP Biology teacher (who TA'ed for Gen. Bio at Rutgers) strongly suggested against taking General Bio. She said that the way she teaches, you learn much more in her course than in Gen. Bio at RU so she told me to just take my credits for it and skip to Cell Biology. I just don't know if this is a smart move because Bio is a part of my major, and because it is, I'm not even sure if RU will allow me to use my Bio credits and apply it towards my major? I got a 5 on that exam too.

I'm a Rutgers junior and when I came to Rutgers I took all the credit I could. These credits are real Rutgers credits; they're not looked down upon at Rutgers. So you can get AP Bio out of the way and move on to more advanced classes. I took my credit from AP Bio, Chem, and Physics, and I'm a molecular bio and biochem major. It gave me more freedom to take non-science classes I was interested in and do things like study abroad, etc. If you get a 4 or 5, deans suggest you take the credit and move on, and I agree.

I tried registering then I found out I have to take the placement testing first. I'm taking mine June 2nd so won't I be too late to register for Gen. Chem I (summer 2008)?
Plus is it possible to get the 8 credits from Gen Chem I and II before Fall?

MedusaFelix: I think you might have to resort to registering late ($50.00, I believe), -- if it's not a problem. The only problem might be whether there is enough space available.

Anyway, I have a question (anyone's free to answer): Since I can't do the summer session like I wanted to, is the winter session (in December through January) basically the same thing as the summer one? I am considering the winter sessions, even though it is right after exams.
