How much does it cost to take a class during the summer? After a lot of digging around the summer session site I found a University page that said it was ~$1,000 per credit, but I've also been told by students that that's not true. Does anyone know how much it actually costs?

There is a different charge for in-state versus out-of-state student. It is cheaper if you are in-state. Go to the tuition page and look at the Part time/per credit charge. Example: in-state engineering would pay $699/credit and out-of-state would pay $1,157/credit. Each school has a different price per credit.

I looked into that for my DS one summer since he needed a specific physics class to keep with the program. We are OOS and the cost was approx 5K for one class plus room and board.

He took it at a local community college (was approved by Pitt first) for $ 750.

My son is OOS and took a summer class online at our state flagship (UNC). It also was approved by Pitt in advance to fulfill at GED requirement.

I took 10 credits this summer and they charged about 1200 per credit. They also added in charges such as student health, transportation, security, and computer fees. Total bill ended up being $12700.

My daughter did a 10-credit language program and applied for a scholarship, which she got. Anyway, there is some summer money for some programs. FWIW

Did your daughter apply to the SEALS program?

Yes, she completed her second year of Japanese language between freshman and sophomore years. The scholarship for Japanese language was the Mitsubishi scholarship.
