I'm wondering if it makes sense to visit campus over the summer. Do you think we'll get an accurate "feel" for the campus vibe? Are there any programs running through the summer with enough students to get an overall sense of the atmosphere?

I could possibly go in late May or June (even Mem. Day weekend?) but that's after graduation so I assume it wouldn't be reflective...

Skidmore is definitely a school you want to visit during the school year. (Actually, most schools are best visited when school is in session.) There are summer programs (CTY and a few dance intensives come to mind) but they are not representative of the typical student body.

Definitely visit during academic year. My son visited twice, once in the summer and again the following Spring. I agree with greggles that the summer program students are not typical. The second visit convinced him. He will be a freshman next year.

Summer is actually a great time to visit Skidmore. We offer summer classes that will be in session and Saratoga Springs is lovely during the warm months. Additionally, we have 20 or so tour guides on campus who are available to answer your questions and give you an idea of the campus vibe. You might want to look into attending the Summer Open House on July 16: [Skidmore College: Schedule of Events](http://cms.skidmore.edu/admissions/soh/schedule.cfm). There is a student panel during the open house where current students answer questions from visitors, so that might help you as well. Hopefully we’ll see you soon!

I agree with whyskidmore. My son just finished his freshman year. We did a summer visit and he liked the school enough to come back in the fall for a second visit. I think Skidmore, like most schools, favor applicants that come to the school for at least two visits. It shows a real interest in the school and increases the odds that the school really is a good fit.

S is a rising Junior. We’re stopping by to visit Skidmore on a roadtrip back home to WA State–en route from summer music camp in Sidney, ME (NEMC). Have attempted two emails to the college, but haven’t heard back. Will be calling the campus in the next few days to set time for campus visit.

Appreciate you sending this contact information. Going to give that email another try–may have mispelled it. Will make time over the next day to speak with a representative from the school. Have heard wonderful things about school’s offerings/looking forward to S visiting the campus this August. :)

My S just visited Skidmore this past Friday and absolutely loved the campus and the tour. He would love to return in the fall for an open house as suggested by the assistant dean of admissions. Will notification be sent as to when the fall open house will occur or does one just keep checking the web site?
