Is taking a summerschool program at an ivy league school or any university a positive experience? And is the tuition worth the information the courses offer, and is it useful for first year of university?Does it help you get accepted?

no........

As far as I know, summer schoolers tend to be of lesser quality than normal undergrads. They tend to be taught by grad students rather than professors, and they definitely do not help admission.

Some summer programs do help, but those are generally 1) freakishly competitive, and 2) very limited in number of openings.

I'm doing it at Penn which is a super-reach for me due to my low (3.37 unweighted) GPA. I figure if I attend their summer school course, my grandfather calls a few political favors, and my dad's legacy status is considered, and I apply ED, I could have the slimmest of chances...

Penn rejected many many qualified legacies this year.

I know...it's definitely a big reach, but I plan on applying to Emory EDII (where I have a decent chance) if it doesn't work out. Besides...it never hurts to try and use a little pull..
