SUNY Albany for an Out of Stater

So I’ve toured SUNY Albany this past week and loved the campus. It offers so much academically and socially, and it is centrally located in New York’s Capital Region. I love the fact that money is being pumped into the school, shows a lot about the quality of education available. This is defiantly a great school that I would love to be a part of. I would like to major in History or Political Science. I’ve searched for answers on previous threads, but I have not found any useful information for a prospective student from outside of New York. How good are my chances to this school?

Some Stats include
SAT - 1070/1600 and 1600/2400 (CR 540, Math 530, W 530)
ACT- 23
AP- US History (5) and English Language (4)
Euro History and Gov and Politics this year
ECs- Student Government, Big Brother, Varsity Football 4 years, JV Basketball, Varsity Baseball 2 years and also a School musical competition for 4 years. I went to Boys State this past year as well.
Community Service- helping out with Religion classes at my Church and also volunteering in a program designed to teach elderly citizens about technology like iPads etc.
GPA: 89.65 whatever that is 3.3 or 3.4

Is it impossible for someone out of state like me to be considered there? I believe there In State Population is around 85% of the 13,000 undergrads that go there. Which is a considerable amount. I would like to hear what people think. Please comment! Thank you

Unlike schools in some other states, NY has been relatively unsuccessful attracting applicants from outside NY State and especially from states that don’t boarder it. I believe an out of state applicant would have a significant advantage over a state applicant with equivalent credentials. Out of state applicants are desirable because it is hard to be considered a National university if students come only from the state.

@lostaccount Thank You!

.

Your stats are definitely good enough to be accepted to the school and I agree with the above post that being out of state likely gives you an edge. At the very least, it will not be a disadvantage to you.

I got accepted into U Albany with a 2.9, 1580 SAT and great letters of recommendation. I am from MD
