Congrats to your son, wineguy! I raise a glass! :)

I got a call from the Dean of Purchase yesterday and was accepted into the program… VERY excited!!!

I do have one question though… The biggest thing that has been mentioned over and over in everything i’ve read is how rigorous and demanding the program is. While that excites me and i relish the challenge, I also know that all work and no play makes for a lot more stress. So what do you do for fun? Or is there time for it? I’m sure the classes are enjoyable etc, but are you able to visit the city? Does the school itself have anything to do on campus? Parties or things of that nature?

Thanks in advance!!!

Congratulations:) I’m so happy for you.

There IS time for fun. If you stay on top of your work, and do what is asked of you when you are asked, the stress is manageable. And as I’m sure you know, very very rewarding. Basically, the morning/afternoon/early evenings during the weekdays are devoted to in-class studio time. In the evenings, you will be rehearsing for class projects/shows/speech/voice/etc. Weekends are much more flexible!

There are three apartment complexes on campus, and on the weekends there are parties. There are usually “actor” parties, but basically all the parties are open to anyone. Yes, there is time to go to the city! Everyone manages their time differently, but as long as I plan in advance when I’m going, I am able to get work/rehearsals done around my schedule. For example, a lot of us went to the city this weekend to do an assignment at Lincoln Center, and we all found the time to go shopping/visit friends/get food/etc. You can DEFINITELY make it work. The school does have activities on the weekends, there are usually dance parties at Campus Center South. And there are clubs and RA programs and that sort of thing. Usually the school-sponsored events are “hit or miss.” Sometimes they are really fun, other times not. I think you will be able to find a balance between your work and social life. In the spring and fall, everyone hangs out outside. It’s really beautiful.

I would definitely DEFINITELY recommend visiting the campus, talking to students, and sitting in on classes. Congratulations!! Hope this answers your questions, feel free to ask anything else throughout your decision making process!

Thank you!!!

That is great atopthefence!

Thanks =) And thanks a ton eimc, It’s definitely a top choice, but this would be much easier to do if the other schools i applied to were as expedient in their decisions as purchase is lol

But you definitely assuaged some fears i had… so thanks again =)

So, I am wondering. I auditioned for Purchase in February and is one of my top choices…The problem is…I haven’t heard from them and and my school just sent them transcripts last week and should get there by this Thursday or Friday. My question is…would Purchase wait to review my transcripts or send me a letter before they get them?

Thank you eimc2010 for the insight. I know my S will be visiting once we here from everyone else and can get a schedule together - it would have been nice if I could have got Dude NOT to take Anatomy this semester at his HS but he makes up his own mind and is way too much the cool nerd to not take anything that is somehow involved with, science, animee, Martial Arts or acting. Yeah… I just put him out there (–; it kind off makes up for all those diapers I had to change. Anyway, my S will be visiting he will be the handsome one, who looks like his 23 (depends if he is doing the beard thing or not), that is very resepectful and seems shy unless you are in a conversation or he is on stage.

wineguy, I love the way you write about your son. Its the perfect mixture of amusement and paternal love and pride. He’s lucky to have you in his corner.

Hi –

I am assuming that you are a student in the BFA acting program at Purchase. My daughter was just accepted. I wonder what your thoughts are on the intellectual development of students in the BFA acting program–the emphasis on developing smart and worldly actors as well as ones that are technically great. Any thoughts would be appreciated–

This is sort of a subjective question, but I’ll do my best. Since it is a conservatory, actors are only required to take one general education course a semester. Also, it is important to note that the conservatory work comes first here. However, with that said, we are encouraged by all of our teachers to stay up on current events, to have our own opinions, to have our own passions and ideas outside of theatre. They definitely are not just training actors, they are helping the entire person grow and develop. I am learning SO MUCH about myself and the world through my training, but it’s not necessarily statistics or natural sciences. Hope this helps!

So, I was waitlisted today. Somehow I feel like this is a rejection…because who is going to pass up on an oppurtunity to study there. When I auditioned for CMU…they told me they audition 1800 students and waitlist 1800…and Suny is at the level of CMU…so i don’t think my chances of getting in is all that great.

To those of you who was accepted…Awesome job! You must be super talented and your parents must be proud of you. Anways, crossing my fingers for my next school…

I meant CMU takes as much as they accept. So, around 40ish?

niceguy19: a waitlist is not a bad thing. There are usually some that do not accept due to multiple offers…you can only attend one school. I believe CMU’s numbers are a bit lower than 40ish. The year my daughter auditioned they accepted 12 for MT and I think 16 for acting, so a total of about 28.

My daughter was accepted to the acting program at CMU, but chose to accept another offer…so it happens. Keep the faith, getting on the waitlist is a good thing, really! :)

OK thanks. I am hoping for the best. Ah…lower than 40 that’s nerve racking.

May I ask which program your daughter accepted in the end and why?

niceguy19 i sent you a Private message.

I was given a full ride to UCLA as a MT major, which I’ll probably take, but I’m still waiting to hear back from purchase, tisch, boston u, and chapman. We shall see! I auditioned in los angeles back in feb and I still haven’t received anything… No calls, emails, and nothing on the mypurchase account. I’m gonna check the mail later tonight but I didn’t receive anything yesterday either. I thought my audition was pretty strong… They filmed me (which I heard was considered a callback?), and I was given a business card from my auditor. Bad news? Good news? I’m dying here! Any help would be greatly appreciated… Anyone in the same boat with nothing back yet?

Niceguy, People get off the wait list! I would not bank on it but it definitely happens. I go to Purchase and I was from the wait list, as were a few others in my company! And Kayla - When I was applying last year, I didn’t hear until late March. Just hang tight.

My daughter rec’d her waitlist letter today in the mail. She’s home on spring break, and I am glad it came while she was here. She was going insane with the waiting for ANY sort of response…yet here we are… waiting again, lol.

so I still have not received any type of notification from purchase. When I checked my account it said a decision had been made but that was 2 weeks ago. Should I continue to wait for a letter or should I call the admissions office?
