SUNY Purchase acting audition

I have a couple questions about the SUNY Purchase BFA acting auditions, if anyone can help me out:

First, the location: I'm doing the LA unified, and since their days coincides with Purchase's, I was just going to do it then (I also have the option of doing their San Francisco because I live only two hours away). My issue is that I have no idea where the LA Purchase auditions will be (seeing as they are not part of the unifieds), and I don't know if I can spare wasting time having to drive to some other studio across town when I many others schools I have to audition for when I could just do my audition in SF so it doesn't even interfere with my unifieds. I haven't been able to find any contact information for anyone I could ask to clarify this on the Purchase website. The only way I see to communicate with them is to schedule my audition (you have to provide your phone number, so I'm assuming they call you to confirm your date and time?), but I don't want to schedule my audition and then not be able to change it if the information I get for them prompts me to do so. Has anyone here already scheduled their audition for Purchase (or one of the other Consortium of Conservatory Theatre Training Programs schools) and know where the LA location is? Or does anyone know the contact information for whoever it is at Purchase who could answer my question?

And second: on the website, it says they require 16 bars of a song, something I'm uneasy about (hence my going for a bfa in acting and not musical theatre ;)). It says "any genre" - do they REALLY mean that? Has anyone else had to do this for the Purchase audition, and if so, can you tell me anything about it?

Thanks to everyone in advance for your information and time! :)

I e-mailed Purchase way back in December to ask them about audition locations, so, assuming it hasn’t changed between December 9 and now, the LA auditions are at “The Westin LAX, 5400 West Century Blvd.” which, I believe is near the LAX airport.

And the SF audition is at “Hilton San Francisco Union Square 333 O’Farrell St.” if you didn’t know about that one either. And they confirmed my audition appointment through e-mail, not phone.

As for songs, I haven’t had any of my auditions yet, but the general consensus is that for acting applicants, the song is just so the auditors can hear your voice. A trained singing voice is not required for Purchase, as far as I’m aware. And as for genre, if it says “any genre,” you should be fine with something from any genre as long as it’s not a rap or something where you’re not actually singing. But if you’re worried about angering the judges with your song choice, doing something from a musical would be the safest bet.

If you need any help with the Purchase audition contact Susan Werner at 914.251.6830 or susan.werner@purchase.edu. They just hired a new assistant so I’m sure this year is much more organized.

When it comes to the song its not about how you sound. They will just be looking at how you breathe and what you do with the song. It’s not that big of a deal. Just have fun with the song.

Good luck with your audition…

Thank you both for the info! :)

Audition Requirements:
Prepare a song. Be prepared to sing 16 bars of a song in any genre, preferably in a capella. If you choose to sing along with music you must provide your own CD player.
