SUNY Purchase ....It's not Juilliard

I am sorry for your daughters illness. It makes it so difficult and I am so glad we are over that horrible audition crazy not knowing about the right choice blues.

My daughter is just finishing her first year at Purchase in Vocal performance. The staff have been very strict and keep the students very busy. But she loves the program. We are from the south and my little girl had never been above the Mason Dixon line. Jack and his wife have helped her make the transition and provided excellent instruction. He is available and even gave me his cell phone if I ever had any concerns (none yet). They just finished a Puccini a performance and I wasn’t able to attend, but my wife (who went) saw a big quality difference in schools. My daughter has matured and her voice is better than I ever imagined. The kids are supportive with one another and seem to be close. We were afraid that our southern belle would be torn down by NY attitude but this did not happen.

We made the right choice in schools.

The only downside is the dorm rooms and food. However this is something I guess you have to accept
She has he juries this week so I am awaiting the news on this

I just had my audition at Purchase. I thought I did my songs alright, but I completely BOMBED the sightsinging. They stopped me about 2 measure in, too, so I couldn’t even try to regain it.

The next day, I got a call from the school, and it was a nice man who said they really enjoed my audition and were currently considering three people for admittance to the program, and I was one of the three.

I don’t know what to make of this. Any thoughts?

sopranorose…I believe the sightsinging there is pretty hard…so for them stopping you a few measures in I do not think that is a big deal…

Obviously if you received a call then they liked you…were probably trying to gauge your response…to see if you were really interested in a position there…being a state school in NY I imagine they are pretty tight budgeted and want to offer spots to kids they think will accept them…

Sounds like this school might be an option to you…do you have any idea who you would study with there…Unless you go into the audition with a specific person “who is recruiting” you…I don’t think you get a choice on teachers…but I could be wrong here…

If you’d like to pm me I could talk with you a little more about this
