The supplement essay is supposed to be only one page, correct?

But, how many words can it be? Can I, for instance, cram 750 words onto one piece of paper with 9 point font, single spaced? (Which is exactly what I have, and its still about half of what I want to say)

I'm not sure of the answer, but imagine for a moment you are an admissions commmittee person and are responsible for reading hundreds of essays. Your eyes are tired. You're slightly bored. Then you come across a single spaced essay. Unless everyone uses single space (I doubt it) it would annoy me as a reader. Part of good writing is brevity, being able to say what you want in as short a space as possible.

But I can only fit like 200 words tops into a page, double spaced at 12 point font.

I guess the question I need answered is: what is CMU expecting in the supplement essay? A short, to the point direct answer to the question, or a personal essay revealing something about yourself?

"Please submit a one-page, single-spaced essay that explains why you have chosen your major, department or program."

Single Spaced

Alright then, single spaced it is. I'll cut off like a paragraph and increase the font and I should be good to go.

thanks I stand corrected. good luck
