Supplement Question -- Literature Prompt

Do I have to connect my essay back to how literature is my “signature” and stuff? Or can I do my own spin on what literature means to me personally, because I don’t really want to relate to literature being a “signature” or “living in the present.” I view it rather differently, and I was hoping it’d be okay to deviate from the prompt’s ideas of literature.

Don’t know if this question is still relevant, but you can literally take the prompt anywhere. I think its just something to get the juices flowing.

You can do pretty much whatever you want as long as your essay somehow somewhat has something to do with the prompt. Last year, I was tired of writing admissions essays, so I just used an old essay and added and switched around a few sentences to have it somewhat fit the prompt. I got in. You’re not writing for an English class so although you want to show that you can follow directions, it’s ok if you don’t clearly answer the question for the sake of creativity (aka I don’t like this prompt and am going to ignore it).
