Supplemental Music Question

So... I know that we can send a music cd as a supplement.

Is this solely for those with raw talent and who have played an instrument for a long time,

entering competitions and such?

As a band, we've produced songs and we are planning to make an album.

This has been my main extracurricular activity and passion throughout high school.

I wonder how our album would be evaluated.

Thanks!

You couldn’t submit your band album as part of an “official”/CommonApp music supplement. Those require music teacher recommendations, really significant solo work, and an extensive solo resume.

It might not be a horrible idea, though, to submit the CD ANYWAY as just some supplementary material, especially if you consider it to be your main extracurricular activity in high school.

Oh… I didn’t know music supplement and just supplements were different.
Thanks WishyWashy.

I don’t know if Yale will consider the common app arts supplement but here is a link to Yale’s own process.

[Supplementary Materials | Application to Yale College | Freshmen | Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/application/supplementary.html#music)

I’m a piano player who is going to Yale next year, and I agree that the Art Supplement on Yale’s website was kind of vague. However, if there are any songs on your album that feature you as a prominent soloist, or if there are any recordings of you playing in an ensemble (do you play classical or jazz?) where you are a soloist, I’d definitely send that in.

Also, if applicable, I’d definitely try to send in the Common App Art Supplement. Although I don’t think Yale mentions it, I did send it in last year, and I think it helped my application.

Hope this helps.
