Any good mask recommendations for people with heads the size of watermelons . . . asking for a friend.
For people with larger heads, I think ear savers or around the head straps can be invaluable. It takes pressure off the ears.
The KF94s with adjustable ear pieces might work. Look up the LG Airwasher.
Ear savers can be as simple as buttons sewn on a small piece of elastic or fabric. Any quick online search will reveal many of them at varying price points.
My Lutema masks came and they are a great right fit on me. On my husband they fit well but have a small gap under the chin. It did not fit my daughter at all. I also have LG Airwasher and Good day Happylife KF 94 which fit me well. None of those fit my D well, they are all big on her face. She has been double masking the surgical masks which I’m not sure help to double mask.
For double masking, it helps most if the outer mask is well fitted to press the sides of the surgical mask to the face to close the gaps.
Try the small adult Lutema; they really made a difference for my narrow face.
Looks like some medical offices are requiring people to wear surgical-type masks they provide, even if the people are already wearing better masks (N95, KF94, KN95) when they walk in. Perhaps they don’t trust that the better masks are not counterfeit…
This has been commonplace at some medical facilities in Los Angeles throughout the pandemic. I assumed it was a check on the habit many people have of repeatedly reusing what are supposed to be single wear masks.
IMO, it is simply done to nip any arguments like “but my Seahawks mask is great!” in the bud. Everyone is wearing masks provided by the clinic. Full stop. The receptionist does not have to be a mask inspector. Everyone gets a mask provided by the clinic.
My husband has a large head, and he has been happy with the Klaring KF94 masks in Large size. I’ve been buying them in Japan but it seems they are available in the US as well.
I took a gamble ordering Vida masks early last week for my son who is going to Europe on a study abroad program. He leaves Friday at noon and now they are supposed to be delivered Saturday by 9 pm. So I guess I’ll be testing them out myself. I ordered gray.
The article is worth reading, but one resource they list is really useful.
Project N95 buys vetted N-95s, covid tests and other covid related medical equipment in large lots and repackages them for smaller buyers and individuals. Their prices are quite reasonable.
Thanks. Excellent site.
I follow Bob Wachter’s twitter feed. Today he posted a link to this article and this graphic depicting risk/protection from various mask scenarios.
Why is there shipping $17? And that’s for ground.
After wearing a KN94 mask I picked up somewhere (free pack at the library a long time ago?) to the store today, I remembered why I didn’t like it after wearing it on a cross country flight last fall. It comes up very high across my face, just below my eyes. I kept having to pull it down slightly or it rode up into my lower lids. I cannot even wear regular surgical masks - they are way too loose.
I decided to give the Lutema masks mentioned here a try since they have an Adult Small size. Looking at @Marilyn’s photos in this thread was very helpful to see how it fit on her. I just placed an order for the small and the regular for my husband.
I did want to point out that on the order page, there is a spot for “discount code” so I googled Lutema discount code and found a 20% off code and save $9. There is also free shipping.
I will report back once I receive them.
I received my lutema masks today and there is a 25% off coupon enclosed. I am still a little wary of their made up m95c and m95i categories, and there is a NYT article about this made up name, but I do like the fit
