Surgical masks?

If both “sold” and “fulfilled” are by Amazon, that is apparently a legit product. However, these will change depending on product availability from various sellers (even if the link used is the same). Make sure to check who the seller is when you order.

For months I have ordered Powecom from Bona Fide. But I am really leery right now as countless posts on their twitter account indicate so many customers have been waiting weeks upon weeks for their orders. Kind of a bummer because I really like their KN95 masks white and black. I placed an order with Lutema and it says it should be here soon. My college kids prefer Level 3 ATSM black masks I have bought. They really resist the KN95 and KF94’s. They are triple vaxxed as am I. One had break through covid on campus early in the fall…

ps Aaron Collins rates Powecom high filtration as well as Lutema, their version of Kn95;s, even their surgical ATSM Level 3’'s. I know he likes KF94’s. I just don’t find them as easy to on off…

I ordered the Powecom KN95s from Bona Fide on January 5, received them January 14 (near Seattle). I had to wear one when I went by bus to the office yesterday. So far, so good, but my husband won’t be able to wear one—they are pretty small. I also got some 3M Aura N95s at work; again, they are too small for my husband.

Are there any collapsible style KN95s or N95s that will fit someone with a larger face?

My husband has large face and found Lutema masks quite comfortable.

Our Lutema masks arrived today. Ordered on 1/12 so a week to get from San Diego to East Coast. Not bad considering the weekend/holiday. I ordered the regular adult size and the small adult.

My husband tried on the adult size and said it fit well. I tried the adult small and while the mask itself is smaller (does not go up too close to my eyelids) the ear loops were big so did not give a tight fit and the mask moved/slipped if I tried to talk. I will need to tie knots in the loops to make them tighter. Once I pulled the loops tighter behind my ears, the mask itself felt good. I am happy though that the mask does not crowd my eyes like the KN95s I have been wearing.

Thanks, BB!

I received my Powecom KN95 masks from Bonafide masks. They fit me well. Since it looks like I’ll be spending time at various doctor’s offices & a hospital, I’m glad I bought a number of them.

My daughter received one KN95 mask to use at her OT fieldwork location. She’ll share in my bounty :slightly_smiling_face:

I learned something new today that I thought I would share.
The red straps on the 3M Aura N95 masks indicate a fluid barrier is present. The blue straps mean no fluid barrier. If around blood or body fluids, you would want the red straps. Otherwise, blue are fine. So both color straps are legit.

On masks and chances of catching Covid:

Here is the interesting table from the article:

(h = duration, m^-3 = 1 / cubic meter of air space)

Looks like crowded indoor gyms would be the highest risk situations for a given level of contagious infections in the population. Outdoor environments are far lower risk than indoor environments.

It doesn’t mean no fluid barrier. It means they haven’t been tested to the ASTM standard for 160mm fluid resistance. They will repel fluids, they just aren’t certified to do so. Essentially, the red 1870+ are medically certified and the blue 9205+ are industrial certified. For heavy aerosolizing things like dentistry and gastroenterology, it’ll be important. For the rest of us, they’re equivalent. :+1:

My order of BYD Care KN95 masks came in, and I like them! My big-faced husband tried them and said, “Nope.” He will wear the Lutema ones, and the BYDs will be mine.

Just for grins, I dissected two unworn 3M Auras, a red strap 1870+ and a blue strap 9205+. They were identical in materials and layering to an untrained eye. The 1870+ is certified for fluid penetration, but I ran them both under water and both beaded equivalently. Neither became wet. It’s certainly not very scientific, but they are both good masks. I suspect they are exactly the same, save for labeling and strap color.

We have some KN95 masks that are likely counterfeit, based on what our D has told us. They are not labelled with the correct numbers, for one. Yet we heard on the local news 2 ways to test for fake masks is (a) see if an old one will hold water and (b) see if it’s not possible to blow out a birthday candle while wearing said mask.

Well the likely counterfeits passed both tests, and they do fit more snugly than the paper procedure masks given out at entrances to bldgs, etc.

So we may keep using the fake masks in places like supermarkets, where we aren’t there for hours on end and don’t really get close to anyone. We’ll save our 3M N95 aura masks for airports, etc.

One pack of the masks I ordered from Lutema was the wrong color. They ended up replacing the entire order so I am now awash in adult small masks in lots of colors! Will be sending a bunch to my dau in laws.

I’ve been waiting for my masks from Masklab for two weeks. I got “pre-shipping” notification five days ago but no shipping confirmation or package yet.

My Masklab order took awhile, but it was worth the wait. I love my masks! I ordered blueberry Minimal 2.0+ masks. I tie a knot in each ear loop, and they fit perfectly. I love them - I swear, it almost feels like I don’t have a mask on.

Sam’s Club is selling “ACI Surgical N95 Respirator Mask” with supposedly “better breathability” (50-pack for $30):

@eyemgh, any difference between “surgical” N95 and regular N95?
