Survey of Faculty in the South

Recommended reading for families whose kids are considering college in Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and/or Texas. General dissatisfaction among faculty in public universities in those states is significant and stems from a number of factors. Of course wanting to leave a job is not the same as being able to leave, but the numbers are striking. At the very least, it would be worthwhile to look at the faculty rosters in departments and majors of interest to see if those departments will be able to help students achieve their academic goals in the coming years.

I would say the results are not surprising. Professors (and admin) in higher ed are predominately liberal leaning and dissatisfaction with politics/cultural factors seems to be the primary factor.

Regardless of politics, the restrictions make it hard for many professors to do their jobs. Even in conservative states, there has not historically been an exodus of professors – so it has to be more than run-of-the-mill political dissatisfaction. And if you look closer, there are more factors at play (like salaries).
