Hey

I really need help with my current situation so thought I should post here. I was academically suspended for the spring 2011 semester, due to having a 1.13 GPA which is unacceptable. This was my first year (was admitted spring'10) into chemical engineering. Throughout high school I've been a consistently good student, but I found college to be exciting/challenging/ and a really drastically different experience to what I'm used to. I went from Dubai to Pennsylvania for college and was the first time I ever was on my own that far, so I understand that I might have not been that strict on myself as I used to. First semester, I was taking 19 Credits, and was getting average grades but depended highly on the finals to pass my classes. I suffered a really bad knee injury and ended up missing 2 finals out of 3. My professors were lenient on me and gave me a chance to retake them only if I can provide them with a proper medical report rather than ER papers within 3-4 days. I tried hard to get that done, but was able to do so in a week, which was after the make-up exam period. I ended up with 2F's and a D (Chemistry) and was put on probation.

I arrived next semester knowing that I have put myself into great trouble and have to work super hard to prove myself and others that I can do this. I wasn't really going to get A's without the injury so I couldn't blame everything on that. I dropped to 13 credits and re-took Chemistry, and I was put into a Intensive Calculus one course worth 6 credits. I performed well but calculus was tough for me since I never took pre-calculus. I tried hard and took tutoring lessons but nevertheless failed. Already being on probation, the college suspended me for not performing well enough academically.

I'm really scared and concerned on where I'm right now, since It might be that chemical engineering is not the right subject for me. But I can't imagine myself doing anything else, and I truly love the subject. I was not forced into it by anyone and chose it myself during early high school years.

I was told to send an appeal letter to end the suspension for the current term, but my appeal was rejected. I was told to retake all the technical courses that I didn't do well in. I decided to join a local college here in Dubai, and was only able to register for one course (calc one), since I can only afford to pay for one currently(I was on a full scholarship provided by the government here for my college expenses).

I highly regret what happened and I want to get back to my school for summer with all my heart to prove that I'm able to do it. Since my first appeal letter was denied, I was wondering if anyone could guide me into how I should present my case once again to the committee and prove that I'm worth it if given a chance?

If your unclear about anything that I wrote above, you can surely ask!

Thanks, I really appreciate it to whoever is reading.
