Swarthmore for Game Design Computer Programming?

My son visited Swarthmore and loved it, but a current student there told him that the CS major didn’t have enough depth and complexity for someone who wanted a career in the computer programming associated with computer game design. Does anyone know whether majoring in CS at Swarthmore would enable this type of career?
Thanks!

I might suggest you post this on the College Search and Selection thread (much more active), replacing “Swarthmore” with “small, selective, LAC”. I recall similar questions about the area of game design, with many people who are actually in that field saying that a tight focus on the field in undergraduate is in fact not the norm. But as I’m not an expert, it would be better if you get information from those who know better.

My interviewer told me that Swarthmore is really good at engineering and CS though…

That is indeed correct. Swarthmore is really a terrific “life of the mind” school, but probably a bad choice for a preprofessional degree - one where the major directly prepares you for a career in that major without further graduate study of some kind.
