Swatties at the Barnes

Oh, those wacky Swatties. The seniors are all hanging out on campus, work completed, enjoying life before graduation. Today's senior class outing was a couple of charter buses to the Barnes Foundation.

Housed in an old mansion in Merion (a Phila. neighborhood), the Barnes Foundation owns an art collection assembled by an eccentric old Philadelphia doctor now worth upwards of two billion dollars:

ART COLLECTION
The Barnes Foundation houses one of the finest collections of French Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early Modern paintings in the world, including an extraordinary number of masterpieces by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (181), Paul C

Yes, now that the Honors' orals are completed, everyone can participate in whatever senior trips they care to join. Don't be frightened, prospies. ;) Some of the trips are to amusement park type places.

S is playing laser tag, bowling, and going to a Phillies game. He's not much of a museum lover anyway and after honors exams and orals, he's looking to blow off some steam.

neat! my art history major self really appreciates that (and somehow i didn't even know about the Barnes Foundation...and it has so many pieces!!). i've actually fantasized about going to art museums with fellow swarthmore students (a full year before i was even accepted...oh, thank goodness my obsession wasn't in vain).
i fail to see what's so wacky about a bunch of intelligent college graduates going to see impressionist and post-impressionist paintings created by the eras' most important artists, though.

thanks for sharing. brightened up my morning. i can't wait till august 26th. :)

LACtransferhopes, I think I can safely say that interesteddad's "wacky" comment was made with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. Swatties are a rather diverse bunch, as you well know by now, and aren't afraid to enjoy a little cultural opportunity.
Edit: shellfell, congratulations to your S for making it through Honors exams and orals, and enjoy Commencement!

Thanks momof3sons. Just keeping fingers crossed on the weather at this point.
