So I’m still in the process of trying to find my monologues (I know, shame on me!), and I was wondering how they feel about the usage of swear words in monologues. There’s one I have in mind that I think I could play well, but it uses the F word. A lot. It’s a teenager’s monologue, not an adult’s one. I don’t ever swear in real life, but I’m fine with swearing while I’m acting. But the question is whether NYU is ok with that. Do you know?

Hmmm. Well, I’m not completely sure if this is a yes or no answer, but ALL of my teachers at Tisch curse all the time. It’s not a big deal. Even my Writing the Essay teacher drops the F bomb at least once every class.
A lot of scenes we do in class (at Strasberg) involve the F word. So, I’d honestly say, for Tisch, go for that monologue!

I just had my audition at Tisch, they said that swearing was fine. My monologue had a lot of swearing in it, they don’t care at all. However, I didn’t know this before, you CANNOT use props, not even a hand prop. Nothing but yourself!

Good Luck with your audition!

ok, thanks you guys! Yeah, I was reading on one of the main audition threads that swearing wasn’t ok, but I had heard from one of my teachers that NYU doesn’t mind. I guess it just depends on the school.

for the record, I’m no longer going with that monologue, in case any one was wondering.

sorry for the inconvenience!
