My D26 got invited too her teammate’s sweet 16 and we have no idea what to get her. This is our first experience with a sweet 16. I am hoping to stay at $50. I was thinking maybe a necklace from Etsy with her initial? Is that cheesy? D26 is no help and I do not know her parents. Thanks.
Maybe something to do with the team? A blanket? A backpack or duffel with the team logo? Tickets to a concert or game in your area?
Lots have sweets here, kids just give money, mine gave $20 because it adds up unless a close friend.
+1 on this, except mine gave $25, except for close friends.
Bath and Body Works baskets were popular in my D’s friend group.
I don’t say this to be mean, but your D is 16 and is going to the party - she needs to be involved in deciding an appropriate gift!
What kind of things would your daughter like if you were going to spend $50 on her??
Her daughter should ask some friends what they’re giving to get a good idea, I’m sure it varies in different areas.
Yeah she tried that and is getting nowhere I told her I would ask here. She isn’t even 15 yet - this girl is on her team but a different grade, different friend group, etc. A little trickier to navigate.
When my D had her sweet 16 she got a good bit of jewelry (like you described above). You might also get something like an Amazon or Sephora gift card, something related to their sports team, a nice wallet etc.
If I’m getting a gift for someone I don’t know very well (though the whole idea of a party that you have to give/receive gifts to someone you don’t know well seems odd) than I wouldn’t get too specific. If she is a sporty person maybe a gift bag and fill it with some after practice snacks (protein bars, nuts, chocolate) and a gift card to a “anyone can get something here” type of place.
We used to give around 20-30 gifts when kids were little for birthday gifts. For sweet 16 around where we lived generally were fairly elaborate affairs, so we gave more. My girls got a lot of Tiffany coins. They pooled them together and got one thing they wanted from Tiffany.
Thanks for all the great suggestions!
I think if she is unsure about a gift I’d go with a gift card.
I’m 16 and if I don’t really know her I usually try to do some sort of theme - like spa day (shower steamers, sheet mask, loofah, lotion, scrunchie) or cozy day (fuzzy socks, candle, blanket, fancy hot chocolate) or beach day (cute towel & flip flops in a beach bag) or night out (wristlet, lip gloss, mini perfume). And I always add her favorite candy if I know what it is. Don’t stress about it. I always appreciate whatever I get.
