Sweet Briar College vs Cedar Crest College

I've been accepted into both of these schools and I just wanted people's opinion on these two schools. Which is the better school, has the better academics, what are the students like at each school, campus life etc..

I’ve been accepted to both as well! While I have not (hopefully yet) visited Sweet Briar, I did have the chance to go to one of Cedar Crest’s open houses, back in April. It was…alright, I suppose. The campus was pretty (albeit, not gorgeous), but it was stuck in Allentown, which did not seem like a very nice place to be. The people seemed to be somewhat friendly, but of course, my knowledge is limited to a few tour guides. Cedar Crest is definitely not at the top of my list, but it may be different for you?

Good Evening Ladies!

I’m a current student here at Sweet Briar. I saw your post so I thought I’d offer some (hopefully!) helpful information. I didn’t apply to Ceder Crest, so I can’t speak to that school. But I’d love to share some of my thoughts and experiences as a Vixen. In terms of academics, Sweet Briar is a very special place. I think it takes educating students to a whole nevel. The personal attention and relationships I have built with professors is something I don’t think I would get anywhere and I know a lot of my friends who attend bigger schools definitely don’t. My professors and I are on texting terms, so if I ever need help with HW they’re only an email or text away. I have professors that will email internship or scholarship opportunities that pertain to things I am interested in. Our school has a 100% Vet School acceptance rate. My ‘Big Sister’ just got into UPenn’s Vet School, so that’s huge! We have a newly accredited Engineering program that my friends are super excited about as well. The only other women’s college to do so. Are there specific majors y’all are interested in?

In terms of the campus climate, I think it’s very similar to almost all campuses across the nation. We have our good days and bad days. As someone who grew up in the North it was definitely a culture shock and an adjustment for me, but one that came naturally and almost immediately my first year. Everyone is very nice, we are not really the type of school where you walk to class with your head down and don’t interact with the people you see along the way. Everyone likes to say hello! Regardless of the stereotypes we may have acquired over the years, we have all types of students here, so you’ll definitely find someone to befriend! Even though we’re situated in what people like to call ‘the middle of no where’ Lynchburg is only 20 minutes away and there’s tons of life in Charlottesville which is about 45 minutes away. During the week most students don’t have too much time to spare because we’re all super involved but on the weekends whether it’s going out to eat or down to our brother school Hampden Sydney there’s plenty to do (even on campus)!

I hope that helps!!

Cheers!
