Only some schools include the stipend. You have to ask if this is a school that does. Most of the Power 5 conferences do, but some only pay it for headcount sports. Others do include a percentage of the stipend for all athletes (Pac12, B1G). Some have a higher stipend for OOS students but others do not.
With the new recruiting rules coming into place that allow official visits for juniors, I’m wondering how that will effect official visits for class of 19/23? Would they have any over the summer?
Most teams/sports like to do the official visits during the school term as a big part of the visit is to meet the team, go to a different sporting event (football or basketball game), check out classes. Visits in the summer are normally unofficial visits, paid for by the athlete.
@hopefulswimmer All of the coaches my son has talked with said they’ll do pre-reads over the summer and OV during the Fall ( different sport) . They’ve all said to have transcripts/test scores, schedules, resumes ready for July 1 when they start their official pre-reads with admissions. Most of them have asked for scores and grades already, as a pre-screen just to make sure my son has any chance of admission.
Summer is a good time for unofficial visits if it’s easy to do. The coach will usually have more time and will start to know what his recruiting class will look like, and shows you have an interest in the program.
This is a helpful thread and I’m commenting only to follow further… S23 has plenty of time but it also seems like (from what I’ve read) it’s never too early to start thinking about it. He has been swimming since he was 6 started year-round at 8, and then HS varsity last year at 12 as a 7th grader. So much to learn…
