Swimming in college?

How beneficial is playing a sport, say swimming, in college?

I do not want to go to college based on their swim team. I have mediocre feelings about swimming in college. However, many say that being a college level athlete has amazing perks that you would not want to live without like "free" tutoring, registering for classes first, and just being a priority around the campus.

Is it worth the practices and not coming home as much as a "normal" college student?

If you’re not really into swimming then college swimming is not for you, too big a commitment even at D3

The thing is I used to be really into swimming. Then, I had a new coach who was different that I was used to. I did not adjust well to this change. I have heard of many swimmers who have not liked swimming in high school, but swam in college and loved it.

If you can’t adjust to a new high school coach you’re probably not college swimming material

Well it was a club coach. He was essentially a 180 of my old coach, who I absolutely adored. Everything my old coach did, my new coach would do the opposite. My new coach was just different and expected us to put swimming as our number 1 priority, which it wasn’t for me.

If you want perks like you mentioned above in your op then apply to the “honors” program at the colleges that interest you.
