Hi all. I will be a sophomore next fall at USC Honors and right now I am a poli sci/econ major. I am thinking about exploring pre-med by taking some science classes. I haven't taken any yet but I am thinking about switching my astronomy to a biology. I have no intentions right now of switching to a science major but how can I still leave the door open to maybe switch to pre-med by the end of my sophomore year if I decide to do so? I brought in 30 hours of AP credit and have maybe 4 or 5 more gen-ed requirements. Thanks!

No need to switch majors unless there's something weird about your school. Taking the premed coursework is all you need, and starting yoru sophomore year is plenty of time. I'd get started on genchem sooner rather than later, however.

I must confess that I'm not really clear on what your question is.

Basically I am going to be graduating with a major in Poli Sci. But I have no idea at this point what I might want to do and lately I've been thinking maybe med school. So if I understand it right, I have to take 8 classes and the MCAT and then I can apply. So could I just be a pre med political science major? I'm really new to even thinking about med school so I have no idea.

You can major in whatever and still apply to med school as long as you take the required 6 or so courses. No need to switch majors.

thinks

4 semesters of chem (usually 2 genchem and 2 orgo, but could be 2 orgo and 2 biochem; I went 1-2-1)
2 semesters bio with lab
2 semesters English
2 semesters Math (rarely required, but just thought I'd mention it)
2 semesters physics

Am I missing anything?

Some suggested courses: biochem, writing class (if diff from Engl), stats, orgo lab
