I was wondering how long it would take to get a bachelors and masters in architecture at syracuse. I know that the bachelors program is 5 years and the masters program is 3 years. However, I read that if you take the masters program you would not have to repeat classes you took in the bachelors program. So I was wondering if any SU architecture grad students could give me an answer. Thanks

you can post this over at the Syracuse forum, but really you ought to be asking this of the admissions personnel at syracuse because they have to get it right.

Many architecture schools offer an accelerated MArchII degree for students who have BArchs (or sometimes BS/BAs in architectural studies).

Syracuse’s website is a bit unclear on this point. It says that students entering the MArch program without architectural background need to complete 7 semesters, and that advanced standing is possible for students with non-professional degrees, However, as far as I could tell, it doesn’t spell out the rules for students coming in with a BArch.

I agree: ask them for clarification.

My son’s experience at his MArch school (not Syracuse, though) was that advanced placement credit was inconsistently and sometimes arbitrarily applied, but for the most part BArchs completed the MArch in 2.0 years (out of 3.5).

After 5.0 years you may change your mind about continuing on at Syracuse or immediately getting an MArch, so I wouldn’t put too much weight on the MArch just now.
