Hey everyone!
I am a finalist for the Coronat scholarship at Syracuse. It is a full tuition scholarship with extra perks. Does anyone know how many students are chosen as finalists? (I have to attend an interview but will have some trouble as there is an overlap with my senior trip. Knowing the quantity of competition will help me figure out what I’ll do. Also I’m just curious.)
For anyone in the same boat, I received another email from the university stating that there are only 35 students invited for an interview, and of them, 25 are given the scholarship. Safe to say, I will be attending the interview despite my senior trip.
@neuronerd31 Congrats on being a finalist for the Coronat scholarship! You are extremely fortunate as so few out of the thousands of applicants are invited to even apply and submit essays for the Coronat. It’s liking winning lotto. Well, almost :). Considering that Syracuse tuition is $45,000 and increases each year, you stand to lose almost $200,000 if you chose to attend your senior trip instead of attending the interview weekend competition. Wise choice you made! Good luck!!
May I ask how your stats are?
@jstarling28 I got a 30 on the ACT. My weighted gpa(on a 100pt scale) is a 101.62. I take all honors and AP courses. This year, I’m taking honors programing, honors anatomy, honors english, Ap bio, ap psych, ap calc ab. For extracurriculars, I’m secretary of my class, have tons of volunteer work, and am in an art honors society and spanish honors society. I played basketball for 3 years and soccer for 4. I also attended a neuroscience camp at Drexel over the summer, so I have some research experience.
Did u have a spike?
I’m currently at like a 93 but by admissions next year I should be at around a 97 or so. Haven’t taken an act yet but I’ve gotten high 20s on practice test(target score 32-34) math honor society, history honor society, language honor society, athletic honor society, and national honor society. Vice president of history honor society. also in class council and world of difference but I don’t really think I’ll put that in college app anyways. then captain of varsity xc and winter track (I’m a junior btw) And should have around 200+ hours of community service. U think I’d have a chance?
@jstarling28 You should have a chance. Definitely work on your GPA and ACT this year. High standardized test scores are a huge factor when applying anywhere, and I wish I would have taken the test more than once. I think my essays(there were 3 short essay questions to apply) were the main factor that put me into consideration to be a Coronat Scholar. Make sure you keep them original and find intuitive ways to approach them. They’ll stand out better. Also, be yourself. Keep in mind that they want to get to know you through your writing.
