Syracuse Honors Program vs. RPI for engineering?

I’ve narrowed my school choices down to RPI and Syracuse, and I’m considering majoring in engineering (possibly mechanical). My question is, is Syracuse’s Honors Program compelling enough to make it a reasonable choice over RPI, or will RPI present many more post-college opportunities regardless? I know that RPI is much more reputable for engineering than Syracuse, but I’m not sure if the Honors Program and financial benefits would outweigh that.

My cost to attend RPI is about $28000 per year, while it’s only about $17000 per year at Syracuse, so would the ~$11000 extra per year for RPI be worthwhile if my family is able to reasonably pay it?

If you’re going to study engineering, I would pick RPI:

  • RPI engineering has an excellent reputation in the industry - better job opportunities and co-ops than Syracuse (and honors won't bring companies to your job fair). Check out the list of companies attending the RPI career fair.
  • Since your family can reasonably afford it, in my view RPI is worth the $11K/year over Syracuse because of the career prospects in engineering.
