So, if we didn’t hear back, is that waitlist/reject?
Last year we were in the same position and I scoured every post from the prior 2 years. Week one which just occured on March 15th is all acceptances. Next Friday will be mostly rejections. The following Friday will be Wait List and then finally a few people will be offered to start at LeMoyne College. A few people may get acceptances - just enough to keep every child on this chat hanging onto some hope. Many kids get acceptances into second choice schools. If the school they wanted is particularly competitive, then it will not be easy to transfer once they get there. Switching majors within a school seems to be no problem. My daughter did get in off the wait list in the school of education (she heard May 3rd), but other programs seemed to accept no one off of the wait list.
There was a recent post saying that the university charges may not be that high as those stated on the website. They may not spend on those items, but the kids spend a lot. They hate the food and start eating out very early in the semester and you must pay for 15 meals a week for freshman year. For kids with work study it took them a very long time to get setup with jobs. Eventually they did seem to all get setup and seem to be able to get the hours they are entitled to.
If you did get in, make reservations for parents weekend now (they can always be canceled) - the game is a Friday night game. - http://parents.syr.edu/family-weekend/. Move in is a little harder with pre-orientation programs and registration over several days.
Have your child join the facebook page and parents join - su parents class of 2023
Really?!?
Oh god hopefully it’s not like that this year
^ I feel you
So then if you didn’t hear from Newhouse or A &S chances are it’s a rejection at this point?
@Amkngk and what i have to if i dont have 75k liquid funds? I mean, i can t wait for admission and then take a loan?
A very large number of students apply to Syracuse every year, and a very small number post on college confidential. Also, people posting (or lurking) are far more likely to share their acceptances than their rejections or waitlists. It does look from the past few years like most (not all) of the acceptances came out in the first week, but I would not assume anything until you hear for sure. My S19 is still waiting on Mech E.
@Tgd200 You will have to contact the University and ask about timing. Some universities do require proof of funding before they will issue an admission decision, others allow you to wait.
I called the financial aid office today and they said the financial aid package generally follows in 1-2 weeks after admission. For those who were admitted on Friday, hold on tight to receive your financial aid info. For those who haven’t yet received a decision doesn’t mean you are rejected. I strongly feel an admission decision isn’t based on the proof of funding. We have had schools asking for additional financial info after they gave an acceptance.
To verify, to the best of anyone’s knowledge, any merit aid would have been included in the acceptance letter (not in MySlice)? Financial aid information may follow in a a week or two?
Has anyone received admissions for the iSchool yet? Haven’t seen anyone post here who’s gotten admission there yet. Congrats to all that got in so far!
I got into Whitman on Friday… anyone receive a package in the mail yet?
Syracuse is a need-blind school (except for international students) so you shouldn’t be asked to provide proof of funding unless you are an international student.
I haven’t recieved anything by mail, but I assume it will be a while since snail mail tends to be, well, slow.
Good luck to everyone still waiting!
Our daughter was accepted on 3/15. $15,000 in aid per year. She is excited! Now comes the tough part though in choosing between three very good universities.
Accepted on March 15th to college of engineering for aersopace engineering - here are my stats:
SAT: 1460
GPA (weighted): 4.75
AP Classes: 9
Rank: top 10% of my class
with a lot of community service
I didn’t receive any merit based scholarships though (kinda confused), and unfortunately I don’t see getting enough aid that would allow me to go to the school. Anyone else in the same boat?
@yaocantdrive hi my son was accepted to the iSchool on Friday. Good luck to you!
Should I expect to only hear on a Friday? Also is everyone basically just going to get waitlisted or rejected since last Friday was all acceptances? That wouldn’t make sense however since it’d be too obvious of the office of admissions at Syracuse
So we called today and they said more decisions out at anytime didn’t specifically say anything about Friday’s.
Honestly, I’m so nervous. Literally I check my slice like 3 times a day. I check my email more than my messages. I hate that it comes out every week instead of every other day or something.
