tablets for premed?

I'm looking at a laptop purchase, and I'm wondering if a tablet would be useful for me in college. The school I'm attending the fall of 2007 is JHU as a premed so I'm wondering if a tablet would help me take notes better.

I know engineering majors use them a lot, but I'm not sure if premeds have much use for them.

It's impossible to say - if you'll use it, and take advantage of appropriate software, then it might. I know my little brother's high school gave all their students Palms, but most students only used it for playing games...

Most medical students get PDA's prior to their third year for use on wards. I know the University of Kansas's School of Medicine began requiring students to buy tablet PC's for students in the Class of 2010 (students who are M1's currently). I don't know how many others have done same...

hmmmm... when taking notes during premed classes, would this help in the note taking process?

looking for more opinions..... bump.

Wouldn't typing be a lot faster/easier?

well that was my idea, but i'm not sure if laptops in class is a common thing for premeds to do.

What does it matter if it's common for pre-meds? If you want to use it, then use it...

I think my biggest problem in deciding if I should use a tablet, is that I've never really taken notes before nor do I know how to take notes correctly. Teachers always gave me handouts and I just fill them in during high school.

Yeah I have noteblanks in my classes too...I'd say open word and start typing away..Tablets are expensive and are probably useful if you have classes where you stand a lot.

hmmm, any premed here actually have used or had a close premed friend who used it tell how a tablet had helped them?

i m doing pre med, its not really needed well atleast for me, My friend has one, he rarely uses it, because for some of the classes, profs talk so fast that you have to be a quick note taker, and a its a big hazard tyring to figure everything on the tablet, in the end u end up wasting ur time, but if u kno how to use it, i say go for it!
but i do have a question for all, since i just registered on this site, i have no idea how to post a new thread, so yea srri if u have to read this!
I am a freshmn and buying my books first semester from college book stores cost over $500.00 which was alot, so now i m thinking to get the books from online, but does anybody no a website or two where you can look up which books r required for wat classes???

do prof give slide shows to students?

oh, just make a thread on the page where you found this page.

well my physiology teacher is like 80, who cant speak english, so we have a grad student who takes notes for us on the over head, but she writes so fast, its impossible fo me to keep up even with paper and pencil, and i m probably gonna guess thts how most premed classes r, der was only one person with a tablet in the class, and 4or 5 ppl who typed on der laptops. nd thanks

hmmmmm..... i really like the tablet, but i've only been recommended against the tablet by JHU students.
