no, the current situation is hurting alot of ppl who cant move or do business across the taiwan straight

The problem lies the alternative- do you really think any sane person would risk a potentially nuclear war or at least an all out war or any military conflict?

no but some stupid ppl r keeping what could easily be simply just like the hongkong-china relationship (political independence aside) from happening

Yeah I kinda get the impression Hong Kong is getting stooched nowadays especially with all the development and focus on Shanghai ... It's not exactly the ideal precedent set to follow.

Yes...Hong Kong has recently lost its reputation of the Top Asian Biz city

so wheres the top azn biz city now?

shanghai more like...or maybe beijing.

I'm from Hong Kong.
I believe Hong Kong is still the top. Though it fell a little bit, which I must admit, it is not worse than Shanghai.
Hong Kong, I believe is the busiest harbor in China. And just Hong Kong, is still the top ten in the list of the countries has the most foreign exchange reserve. I think it's 7, and the last year is 3 or 4.
Shanghai is still too young to substitute Hong Kong's place. The trade is cheap in Shanghai due to the cheap labor, but there are a lot of restrictions where Hong Kong is the freest economic system throughout the entire world.

Beijing? Hell no! This city SUCKS. I hate living in here.

I vote for Hong Kong and Shanghai.

^yep, seconded

I was born in Beijing and lived there for many years. I go back there for every break as well. The city is getting more poluted every day.

lol u ppl need to got the chinese thread... except that that thread is mostly college kids

新年快樂! happy chinese new year everyone!

I'm Taiwanese and I <3 Taiwan =)
and sorry no, Taiwan is not a part of China

To all Chinese people, I suggest you guys figure how to feed all the Chinese poepel out first and then let's talk about our relationship

You do realise you are "chinese"... chances are by ethnicity and because you're technically living in the "republic of china" not the "peoples republic" so you are "chinese". Ever thought of that babe?

Biologically, it's wrong to determine a race by the country. Theres no such race as Taiwanese or Chinese or American or whatever country it is. The nouns plainly refer to which country one belong to and that is exactly what I meant by Chinese people. I have no problem with that I have common ancestors with Chinese people just as same as I will not deny that I have common ancestors with monkeys or chimpanzees.

and btw, we do eat very well in Taiwan.

ouuu grumpy bum
haha. you must look soo cute when you're grumpy :p

You eat very well you say? are you fat?

Kjoodles
I'd rather you have some logical or debatable statements.
I don't think you have any clue of my appearance nor my personality and I think this type of clueless arguments is the main cause of the amusing Taiwanese politics, which always depresses me.
I personally think the average CCers are quite bright and have great reasoning skills. I am anticipating some exciting new arguments about the status of Taiwan in the international society here but not some clueless comment about each others appearance or personality.

sigh

Can't take a hint can ya?

cawaiigirl, so you think only ppl in Taiwan eat very well, while ppl in mainland China don't?

Some people in China don't eat well I suppose? Or it is not like that any more? At least that's what they teach in the AP Environmental Science.

I do beleive that there are some Chinese eat very well in mainland, or who are the Chinese governors we see on news?

I just try to say that before China wants to figure out the "international" affair, they better figure out their national affair first.Wasn't that what the Communist party said during the civil war and World War II?

Why would you guys think Taiwan wants to be a part of China anyway? What's the good? Yeah..I guess China has all the potential but after all it's a Communist government. Why can't Taiwanese fight for their liberty and democracy? Won't you fignt against the government in the US if they do something that's against your civil right? Then why would you change your attitude when we are talking about Taiwan and China?
