Hi,

My high school used to make Hon Span 5 as an AP-weight. However, for next year (the year I'm taking the course), it's just going to be Honors weight. So, I was wondering whether colleges really care whether a student takes 4 years of language in their high school or not, since I don't want to bring down my GPA taking an Honors class.

Thanks in advance.

If you’re only worried about your GPA, don’t take it. However, colleges do like consistency so taking spanish for 4 years may be a plus.

If it were a class like PE that would have brought down your GPA, I’d have suggested ditching it. But since it’s foreign language (and colleges like to see as much foreign language as possible), I think you should stick with it. That being said, since you’ve had 4 years of foreign language, it’s not critical that you keep it. If you think your time might be better utilized in an AP class that you want to take but might not be able to otherwise (or if you just don’t like Spanish), go for the AP class. In your situation, I’d stay in Spanish; but since the choice is either another year of language or take another AP class (I’m assuming), neither should hurt you. Go for what you want to do!
