Panel Explores Standard Tests for Colleges
By KAREN W. ARENSON

A higher education commission named by the Bush administration is examining whether standardized testing should be expanded into universities and colleges to prove that students are learning and to allow easier comparisons on quality.

Charles Miller, a business executive who is the commission's chairman, wrote in a memorandum recently to the 18 other members that he saw a developing consensus over the need for more accountability in higher education.

My plea to Michigan... Plllleeeaaassseeee oppose this like you've never opposed anything before now. I don't want to be taught on a national system again and take more standardized tests than I have to in my entire life. This is stupid and is going to take away from the college experience. Also, how are they going to compensate for different majors?

I had the same thought as you on the majors. I really don't see this ever passing, dont worry about it. The point is, we all take different classes and even specialize in different areas in our major, so they couldn't conceivably make a test that was good even if it was major-specific. Don't worry about this proposal, it sucks too much to pass.
