Hello all,
I will be an upcoming senior in my school taking 3 Ap classes, ap world history, ap biology and ap statistics. I signed up for both ap calc ab and ap physics B in school, but I was not allowed to because I did not meet prerequisites.

The thing is I plan on doing physics in college, so I really need an Ap Physics Class. I'm planning on studying Ap Physics by myself, but should I do ap physics b or c? I have never studied calculus before, last year I did a functions and trig class which I did pretty well in. But I heard Ap Physics C is more important to colleges looking for physics majors.

Also, I also plan on self studying ap calc Ab. Is this doable by any chance? I've only ever taken 1 Ap, and that was in my junior year with Ap Government. I'm a B to B+ student, but if I do work, I could reach the A- to A levels.

In addition to all this, I have the Sat 1 in october and a few subject tests I'm prepping for, such as SAT 2 physics or Bio. Will studying AP Physics and Ap Biology help me study for the SAT 2 Physics and Biology tests as well?

Thank you for

Depends, are you taking them for college apps or to get college credit from the colleges. Physics B I think is a little leaning more medical so take C. Also, the largest factor is that if you believe you can do it yourself. If you think you can, do it. I’m not sure how good your math is so I don’t want to influence your decision on calc. Btw, physics is harder than calc. (so I heard) I’m hoping someone else has a better answer than me :D

I took both Calc AB and both Physics C courses this year. I got 5s on all three, but I definitely believe that mechanics is a much harder course to do well in than calc. I also think it would be rather difficult to teach yourself all of the material to a point that you could earn a 5 (at least for the mechanics) but I suppose anything is possible. I would just argue with your school about letting you take it because for calc the only prereq really is trig and for physics I can’t imagine what you’d be required to know except calc as nothing else would really help you. I hadn’t done any actual physics course before C and I did fine.

Well ap b is based on what you’ve taken and ap c requires calc. At my school you have to be enrolled in calc if taking ap c but perhaps at yours you need to have taken calc first. Ask about the pre reqs and perhaps if you need calc first you could take it over the summer and then the ap version during the year?
