Would taking:
AP Physics 1
AP Calc BC
AP World History
AP Com. Sci. A
AP Stat (online self-study)
be too much for my sophomore year?
Other class I will be taking will include:
Biology Honors
Spanish II
Orchestra
English 10 Honors
Freshman Year I took AP Com. Sci Principles and tried to take AP Physics but it didn’t fit in my schedule
Pretty brutal schedule and not advised. I would save AP Stats for senior year.
Since there doesn’t appear to be a foreign launguage in your schedule and most competitive colleges want up to at least level 4, you should schedule one.
Remember, it’s not an arms race of taking massive numbers of AP classes. Extracurriculars and standardized test scores are important as well.
OK, so you have Spanish 2 in your schedule. That schedule is still not advised. You should take Chemistry and save Physics for either junior or senior year.
Also, PE is mandatory for graduation in most states and that doesn’t appear anywhere in your schedule.
It sounds pretty intense. Is there a particular reason you want to do so much? Colleges would rather see top grades with a less rigorous schedule than taking on too much and then ending up with a bunch of Bs and Cs. And they also want to see some extracurriculars so make sure you have time for something besides studying.
Hi, Thanks for the response.
P.E. has already been taken care of through the summer school program here, Biology is required for 10th graders here and I think chemistry is for 11th and 12th graders.
What would his schedule be in 11th grade? 12th grade?
This is way too much. Top colleges expect 6-8 APs total. After that they look at the way you contributed to your community.
Drop AP CSA and AP stats.
What about taking Digital Arts?
Participate in coding projects or ECs.
Do not compromise your sleep (it’ll hurt your brain).
Yes, IMHO 9 classes total with these 5 AP classes is too much. You want to allow a time for extracurricular activities and sleep!
I would stick to 1 math and 1 science. (I would probably drop AP Stats and AP Physics. You can still take them next year.)
Drop AP Stats, and postpone Physics 1. Do you even have a lunch period? If CS is your area of interest and you do, in fact, have a lunch period, keep AP CSP, otherwise postpone it.
