Taking 5 AP Classes Junior Year

In the upcoming September I’ll be a junior and I’ve signed up for 5 AP classes, although I’m a little worried and I still have time to change my schedule. Is my planned schedule manageable?

Planned Junior Year Schedule:
•AP Physics 1
•AP Language/Composition
•AP Calculus AB
•Honors Spanish 3
•AP United States History
•AP Chemistry

Is this too much?

Depends on the person and school workload (varies), but here, it’d be hard to manage, especially if you do an extracurricular activity that takes up some time. Everything up to Chem suggests a pretty “typical” advanced/honors students for junior year however.

I know I couldn’t add Chem to a schedule like that, because of who I am and the things I do. So it really depends on you.

I’m a junior right now in 4 APs (more like 5 though because AP Bio is 2 periods here and it’s crazy hard.) The schedule is pretty crazy and schoolwork takes up almost all of my time so that’s something you’re going to have to consider but it’s been a very transformative experience for me. I’m in Calc BC which is pretty hard but AB should be fine. Physics one should complement that nicely despite there being no calc involved because you’ll understand the derivative applications in kinematics. Lang should be like any other english class just with in class writing so if you’re good at it take it but if you’re not a great writer you might want to stick with an honors course. The APUSH curriculum is now focused on bigger ideas so if you’re that student who “gets the big picture” you should be great although it will still be a time consuming class. Personally I think Chem is going to be the hardest thing up there by far but it seems like a schedule you can pull off! Reminds me a lot of mine too and I’m still alive!
