Hey guys, I'm a junior majoring in mechanical engineering planning to take 5 engineering classes spring semester. Although I wasn't able to do well since last year and this semester due to my depression medical condition, I don't believe that taking 4 engineering classes this semester was a problem due to classes being hard (I mean, I wasn't able to concentrate well and I had many chances to get the work done but couldn't because of my condition).

Here's the list of my classes for spring semester

ME315 Stress Analysis
ME312 Thermodynamics II
ME305 Intro to System Dynamics
ME430 Intro Computer Aided Des
ME304 Fluid Mechanics

All these classes seem quite hard (especially fluid mechanics and thermo II)
Should I reconsider?

If there is any way to defer one of those classes to a lighter semester or summer session I would do it. Most nominal programs aren’t crazy enough to intentionally schedule 5 upper level engineering classes in one semester (unless 1 or 2 of them is a lot less time sink than the others)

You have next fall to try 5 again, take it easy for a minute. I know that is hard to do when you ‘know’ you can handle it. I took 8 courses this semester, 5 EGR 2 ECO 1 MAT. I was on track to raise my GPA to a 3.6 something from the 3.42 it is now. But life happens and the last 3 weeks have been hell.

I lost my insurance when my divorce became final so I haven’t seen my PCP or Endocrinologist since before September. I ran out of meds in early November but knowing that I am moving across country on Dec 22 I didn’t see the point in applying for anything until after the move. It was a big mistake. My church hooked me up with my Thyroid medicine last week but without the ADHD meds it was too little too late.

I didn’t even show up for my last final and although I had opportunities for extra credit none of them got turned in. I don’t know the damages yet, our grades post on the 17th. I plan on a respectable 4 course spring until I get back in my groove.

PS is Fluid Mechanics a lab? Depending on the prof, Labs reports can a big time suck. I had 2 Lab courses and one was pretty easy going with a good team so I wrote only 3 of the 10 lab reports. The other was a hot mess and I wrote 6 of 8 for my team and the 2 I didn’t write we got a 65 and a 58 on. Just something to consider.

At my engineering college, we typically did 5 classes… but all were 3 credits. Labs were thier own 3 credit courses, not part of the other classes. If those are 4 credit courses with some labs, I’d say it’s for sure too much.

If you hate yourself, go ahead. Otherwise rethink what you’re doing. You will most likely stretch yourself thin and not do well in any of these classes if you aren’t some time management productivity robot.

(I’m assuming these are all 4 unit classes)

thanks for the reply guys, and actually, they’re all 3 credit class each. I feel like I’m rushing because I’m in the rush of trying to get an internship due to such poor academic progress (as I got 1 more year left)
