Taking an AP Course but Not The Exam?

I've heard that some colleges frown upon this, but will it really do much harm? I'm not going to be able to take the exam due to personal reasons, and I'm a freshman taking AP Enviromental Science and AP Psychology.

I'll probably take the exams above next year, and hopefully more.

Most schools do not consider the course without the test because the course is given by the school, but the test is an standardized test, so it is a way to compare your with other candidates.

So that means I’m good if I take the test next year?

If you are taking the AP exams to get the credit then you need then otherwise i really do not think that it matters when you sit the exams and more what grade you get on them if you want college credit for it.
If you do not want credit for it for college, but still take the classes I think that only shows that you want to challenge yourself and that you show that you want to see what you can do which, in my eyes, only helps you for colleges. I have never heard of colleges frowning upon any students that take the classes but not the tests as long as the students understand that they can not get college credit for taking the classes.

Well, not really. If you do we’ll in an AP class it show the college that you are prepare for college level courses and it can boost your application, regardless if the college will accept those credits or not( like us the case with the Ives). However if you do not do well, it will show them that you are not quite there yet. Sometimes an honors class finished with a strong A is better than an AP with a B. or lower.

Not taking the AP exam isn’t really detrimental for admissions. Your college isn’t going to look at your application and go “why didn’t they take the exam!! reject!” They don’t have time to look @ nuisances like that.

They’re going to look @ your grades in those courses. (get the A, not the 5)

Even with AP Psych and AP Environmental… those aren’t the two most important, difficult exams you’ll take. So don’t worry too much about it.

I’m doing well in both, it’s only the exam that I can’t take. That’s why I’m not taking the course Sophmore year, but the exam just to get the credit. I was just worried cause the year of course taken wouldn’t align with the year of exam.

So, they might twitch their noses but it’s not as big a deal as some CC members make it out to be?

Great. Thanks!

No, it’s not a problem. Inf act, it may help you. If you can do well on the AP exam after taking a break for a year, it shows you retained the info well and learned well in that class. You can also take AP exams without taking the class, so they shouldn’t care too much if you don’t take the exam the same year as the course.

You still can’t take the AP exam on a different date? They have different days to take the tests in case of conflict.

I’m aware that there are other dates, but I can’t make those either.
