I'm a Junior in high school and I am currently taking IB SL Economics. Is it possible for me to take the AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics exams at the end of the year, as well as the IB exam? Also, next year I will be taking IB SL math and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to take either the AP AB or BC Calculus exam at the end of next year?

Yes that’s definitely possible, though I would check with your teachers to make sure that they will go over the AP and IB material. My friends in Econ SL took both the AP Micro and AP Macro tests. I did Math SL last year and I took the AP Calc AB test the same year but my Math SL class was also a AP Calc class so again, you might want to ask your math teacher if they’re going to go over calculus topics. IIRC, there were some calculus topics on the math SL exam but they definitely weren’t as in depth as those on the AP Calc exam.

Why not just take IB HL math? Most colleges accept it for placement like AP calculus BC. They generally do not accept IB SL math for any placement, which implies that it covers less than AP calculus AB.

In order to take HL math at my school you have to take both AP Stat and BC calculus the year before in your junior. I’m just taking pre calculus this year.

Why not just take calculus BC if it is offered?

I would have to replace another course with BC calculus because my schedule is already full. I feel like that wouldn’t be worth it since I’m already taking SL Math.

Assuming you want to learn more math, drop IB math SL and replace it with AP calculus BC, which covers more calculus material.

But I thought that I had to take SL Math since I’m in the IB program? Would I be able to take the SL Math exam by only taking BC Calculus? And even if I could do that, there’s still a bunch of other stuff that’s required for SL Math other than the exam.
