Taking back an SIR?

I was deciding between UCI and UCSD but SIR’ed to UCI in the end. But ever since I SIR’ed to UCI I feel very uncomfortable. I know the May 1 deadline passed but is it still possible to change my decision? I know that you can change your SIR based on if you get off a waitlist or an appeal but what if it is just a change in mind?

I did not have to pay any deposit other than $20 for housing but that is pretty but it. Since May 1 passed, am I pretty much stuck with my decision?

You can back out on your UCI SIR, but it’s likely too late to accept UCSD.

This though is the truth. The moment you switch, IF you can switch, you’ll have second thoughts about UCSD. It’s the nature of the myth we build, that there’s a PERFECT school. The reality is, and this has been shown over and over, perfect is inside of you. The success of your collegiate endeavor is in your hands, no matter where you go. You could be at CSCI and that would still hold true.

The other thing, no place is really perfect. Every school has flaws, be it the food, class size, registration process, teachers, weather, administration bloat, you name it. You will find something not to your liking no matter where you go.

My suggestion, trust your gut that led you to SIR UCI in the first place. Enjoy Irvine and make the best of the opportunity ahead of you.

Good luck.
