I want to know what other people think about taking extra courses at a nearby community college in order to boost one’s high school GPA? Do you guys think it’s worth it? Will colleges really care/ Can they see right through that? If they can potentially be beneficial what college courses are accepted when calculating one’s GPA? Thanks!
I think the GPA question depends on your school? Our school would not include CC classes in the high school GPA unless they are dual enrollment and then they are weighted less than AP classes so no one would take this approach.
I don’t know if it boosts your GPA, but I think it does help show preparedness for college. I think it’s a good thing to do, but be sure your credits earned at CC actually will be transferable to wherever you end up going to college. Unless it’s for core classes that you would take in high school anyway. I think it’s a good way to get core classes done a little early too. Example, maybe you want to do physics during the summer at CC so you can take AP physics in the upcoming school year. Talk it over with your counselor at school.
Depends on the college. For example, California publics recalculate GPA with transferable college courses counted as honors courses.
