I'm planning to apply early to colleges so I want to get my subject tests out of the way this May. I signed up for Lit but I'm worried because I'm not taking AP Lit until next year. I'm in AP Lang now and doing really well (reading and writing has always come naturally to me) and my teacher said I'll probably be fine taking lit now. What do you think? I'm mostly worried about the poetry because I've had little exposure to it.

anyone have any ideas?

You’ll be fine! In the College Board’s official study guide, it lists the requirements for the Lit subject test as 3 - 4 years of college preparatory literary study. You don’t have to take AP Lit, per se, just advanced English courses. Since you’re in AP Lang, you have that covered. Also, the poetry section seems to be more about analyzing the speaker, audience, occasion, and purpose (this is what the official study guide says), so your years in advanced English courses should have prepared you for this. Only basic terminology is necessary such as tone, stanza, alliteration, etc. And again, you’re prepared for this.

I’m in AP Lang and will be taking the Lit subject test, too. I actually think it’s pretty standard to take it after your Junior year. Good luck! : )
