Okay, I have been advised to take my MCAT the august before my junior year so I have all summer to study. I'm a biology major, and have me pre-reqs planned out in such a way that I'm not taking more than two at a time. To take my MCAT the summer before junior year I wouldn't be able to take Physics I+II, as I am supposed to take it junior year. Would you guys suggest changing my plan so I have to take Physics, Orgo, and Bio together for both semesters of sophomore year to knock them out so I can have the suggested material covered to take the MCAT that summer, or keep everything as is so I push Physics to junior year and take the MCAT after that?

What’s your physics background?

never took it in high school

If you have never taken Physics, I do not think that you are ready for the MCAT. I took my MCAT end of sophomore year with some pre reqs missing (a second Organic Chem and a second Gen Chem) but you definitely need Physics (It is a whole separate section!)

I don’t get why you can’t fit it all in? I am in the summer before my junior year right now, and I finished it all on time even after starting late. Everyone recommends taking MCAT during this summer since your prereqs are fresh in your mind. I opted to wait till next summer since I don’t want to study MCATs while I am doing a lot of ecs. Most people say you will forget stuff by then, but I feel like i didn’t learn anything, so there is nothing to forget for me. lol.

EDIT: I’m an idiot.

? If you don’t double up first year,… and then don’t triple up second year… = not finishing after second year. Not hard.

I wanted to know basically if you guys would advise tripling up my sophomore year with S1- Physics, Orgo, ‘Ecology and Field Biology’ and Spanish then S2- Physics 2, Orgo 2, Genetics, and Spanish 2 so that I would have the stuff out of the way to take the MCAT in the summer.

It’s certainly possible to take physics, orgo, and bio at once. If you’re taking a language course and like languages, then it will be a nice break from all of the science lectures and labs. In the fall of my sophomore year, I took physics, orgo, physiology, and ecology along with some research credits and working part-time. It was a pretty hectic term, so be prepared to study since you’re learning the foundations you’ll need for the entire year. I replaced ecology with a language course spring term and even though there was more homework required, it was actually my favorite class that term and I didn’t mind doing the work as much.

Basically, it’s up to you whether or not you want to triple up. It’s pretty commonplace at my school for the biology majors to take physics, orgo, and bio during sophomore year. For some, it’s a killer year. For others, it’s perfectly manageable.

oh ok thanks a lot for the input :)

I am not sure why you would not do what the most do and take MCAT in spring of junior year? You are going to put your GPA in danger by piling up science classes.
