Taking Pre-Calc Over Summer?

Hey guys. I'm a high school junior who wants to take AP Calculus during my senior year. I'm currently in Algebra & Trigonometry. In order to skip pre-calculus, I need to take a summer course, either online or in person. I prefer to do online, but I can't find anything that works out. Does anyone have any suggestions of possible places or advice as to what I should do? Can't do BYU Distance Learning.

precalc is VERY easy, so it shouldnt be a problem. But, because it is a precursor to the APs, make sure you understand all the concepts… otherwise u r in trouble next year. Try to find a tutor that lives near u

Thanks for the reply. Quick clarification here: the problem isn’t whether I can grasp the material. The problem lies with my high school; an approved class in pre-calculus is required in order to advance to AP. So far, all of the colleges they referred me to don’t have pre-calculus offered to non-college students. So, I’m sort of stuck here, as I can’t find a reasonably priced online course that is accepted by my guidance department and a local college offering pre-calc.

oh, so u cant just self study it? I am pretty sure u can go into AP if u take the pre calc final and do good on it. U should check with ur counselor. There is always an exception to the rule.

Our school requires the department head, guidance counselor, and principal to sign off on something like this. From what the head told me, the school requires an official class to skip a level. I don’t agree with their decision, as I’d be fine with taking a pre-calc final in the fall to show I can do AP Calc. But it is what it is, and I’m left in limbo.

That really sucks. Last summer, i took 3 online courses that counted as legit classes. Ask ur counselor if they have a program like this— in my case the BYU Independent study classes counted as credits. I am pretty sure this online course has precalc

I tried to get my guidance department to approve BYU earlier this month. However, they wouldn’t accept the credits as they have had issues with BYU in the past (whatever happened). So, I’m lost as to what I can do. I know that not taking AP Calculus isn’t the end of the world, but I’m really want to take AP Calc and I’m tired of dealing with my school.

hmm… maybe u can self study for the AP test… they cant stop u from doing that. Anyone can take the test without taking the class

Try FLVS (Florida Virtual School). You’ll have to pay for it if you’re out of state, but from what I understand they’re fairly good classes - they have AP Calc (AB and BC) as well, if that’s an indicator of anything.
